Our Family Command Center
Back in the spring I designed this family command center area of the hallway that leads to our garage. The shelf was bright aqua and the letter rack was red. It was cute but after I painted this past week it really didn’t go with my new Revere Pewter wall color. So I used some Americana Decor Chalk Paint and painted the two pieces white. Then I antiqued them a bit with some Jim Holtz Distress Ink. I finished both pieces with a coat of Americana Decor Creme Wax. I also updated the area with a new calendar for the school year. I LOVE to use washi tape to organize our events by family member. Today these rolls were on sale at Office Max for $2 a roll! SCORE! Keeping the tape and a few Sharpies handy (right above the calendar) encourages us to stay organized and up to date. The letter rack is the first and last thing I come to at the door so it’s easy to remember to mail my catalogs, hostess packets, and packages. It also helps us keep up with keys, sunglasses, bookbags, and purses. I purchased everything at Hobby Lobby with 40% coupons so it wasn’t much over $100 to redo this space (including the clock). It’s amazing how one small area of your house can be tweaked a little to drastically improve your family’s organization.
